Fishing

Custom fish with a rarity and a size, caught on Permanence rods you earn and tune. Different biomes hold different fish, and the biggest catches go on the record board.

Start here/fish, the Master Angler and the Fishmonger in town

How it works

Permanence rods only ever catch custom fish, never vanilla fish, junk or treasure. Every bite starts a reeling game: hold sneak to push the catcher and keep it over the fish until the bar fills. Rarer fish fight harder.

Before you own a Permanence rod, a plain rod sometimes lands a custom fish. Once you have earned one, a plain rod only catches vanilla fish. Your first rod, the Angler Rod, comes free from Tutorial Island (/tutorial) or chapter 1 of the Angler's Path.

The loop

  1. Earn the Angler Rod and fish in as many biomes as you can.
  2. Win the reel to land each fish. Check the Fish Journal in /fish for species and personal bests.
  3. Sell to the Fishmonger. Rarer and bigger fish pay more, and fish lose value as they go stale, so sell them fresh.
  4. Take the Master Angler's daily and weekly bounties.
  5. Fit a reel, line, hook and technique at the Master Angler to suit how you like to fish.

Where it leads

Your Angling level rises with every catch. The Angler's Path in /quests has 18 chapters, each needing an Angling level and a few goals. It gives better rods at chapters 1, 7, 12, 15 and 18, unlocks rod parts, and pays coins at chapters 6, 11, 16 and 18. Server size records show on /fishtop, and common fish go into a few cooking recipes.

In game, /guide explains every system and /menu opens them all.
